Bringing quality education to rural communities

Soan Valley Public School

In the heart of Basali, a small village approximately 35 km north of Islamabad, stands Soan Valley Public School, a pioneering institution dedicated to providing a world-class education to underprivileged children. Established in May 2005, this school represents the commitment of the Kashmir Education Foundation (KEF) to transforming lives through education.

Soan Valley Public School was the second school established by KEF in Pakistan, inspired by the phenomenal success of its predecessor, Pearl Valley Public School. Recognising the need to extend quality education to other underserved areas, KEF set out to replicate its model, ensuring that children in rural communities could access the same opportunities as those in major cities.

The school is more than just a learning institution; it is part of a larger educational ecosystem that includes The Joan Atkinson Institute of Teacher Education (JACTE), a hostel for female trainee teachers, and accommodation for international tutors. This integration allows aspiring teachers to gain hands-on classroom experience while ensuring students benefit from innovative and interactive teaching methodologies.

With over 500 students aged 6 to 13, Soan Valley Public School is committed to fostering an environment where children can thrive academically and socially. The school is equipped with modern facilities that rival those found in urban institutions, including a state-of-the-art ICT lab, a language laboratory, a library with over 10,000 books, an arts and crafts room, a multipurpose hall, and expansive playgrounds. It contains a library, named after Miss Anna Finn, a dedicated London school teacher who contributed much of her time and effort to supporting the efforts of KEF.

As part of its mission to promote gender equality in education, 51% of student places are reserved for girls, ensuring that young women have the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. By removing barriers to education, Soan Valley Public School is actively shaping a brighter future for the next generation.

For the children of Basali, this school represents more than just a place of learning; it is a beacon of hope, bringing 21st-century education to their doorstep. Through the dedication of educators and supporters like Miss Anna Finn, Soan Valley Public School continues to empower young minds and lay the foundation for a better tomorrow.
