Sir David Green KCMG CVO

Sir David Green KCMG CVO, Patron of Quest for Education Foundation, has dedicated his career to education, international development, and the arts. His leadership and commitment to improving access to education align with Quest for Education Foundation’s mission to support schools and teachers in underprivileged communities.
Sir David has an extensive background in global education and charitable work. He served as the CEO of the British Council and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), and was Deputy Director-General of the Save the Children Fund. His expertise in fostering international collaboration and educational development has played a key role in shaping initiatives that empower disadvantaged communities.
Beyond his work in education, Sir David has held significant leadership roles in the arts and philanthropy. He has served as Chair of the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, the Dartington Hall Trust, the Royal Common Society, and Dash Arts. He was also the Founding President of the European Union National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC) and has been a trustee of University of Arts London and the English-Speaking Union.
Currently, Sir David continues his commitment to cultural and educational development as a trustee of the Royal Court Theatre, the Finnish Institute in London, Africa’s Voices Foundation, and Soumik Datta Arts, which he chairs. He is passionate about the arts, international development, and expanding access to education for those who need it most.
At the start of his career, Sir David spent five years teaching in comprehensive schools in South Yorkshire, an experience that gave him a deep appreciation of the challenges and opportunities within the education system. His passion for learning, combined with his global leadership experience, makes him a valued supporter of Quest for Education Foundation’s mission.
Sir David has expressed admiration for the schools and teacher training programmes supported by Quest for Education Foundation and has seen first-hand the impact of quality education in transforming lives. He remains an active advocate for QEF’s work, supporting fundraising efforts and inspiring others to join the cause.
He is married, has three daughters and four grandchildren, and continues to create art alongside his commitments to education and international development.
