Educators and volunteers
Share your expertise
Teachers and education specialists in the UK help the schools and the college we support by sharing their experience with the Kashmir Education Foundation’s (KEF’s) teachers and trainee teachers.
Good teaching is the multiplier: one well-trained teacher reaches generations of pupils. KEF trains women as primary teachers at the Joan Atkinson College of Teacher Education, and UK educators have long supported its schools: Pearl Valley Public School’s first three principals were British educators.

Volunteer teaching
Salima, a UK-qualified teacher, spent six months volunteering at Soan Valley Public School in Bassali. She heard about KEF on a television programme, wrote to offer her help, and worked alongside the school’s teachers.
“The Principal at Soan Valley Public School and I hit it off immediately. We discussed how to maximise my input for those beautiful children and devised ways of helping the other local staff without imposing on them.”
Our UK consultant network
A network of experienced UK teachers and subject specialists, led by Iffat Ferdinand, one of the charity’s co-founders, gives its time to advise on curriculum delivery, teaching strategies and subject-specific training.
The consultants work alongside KEF’s teachers and trainers. If you teach a subject in depth or train teachers, you could join them.

Links between schools
Pearl Valley Public School in Rawalakot has links with two schools in England: Valentines High School and Acklam Grange School.
Many people and organisations have helped to set up and run the school, including the British Council, Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) and Australian Volunteers International.
