On 24 June, Soan Valley Public School in Bassali held its first parent-teacher meeting of the year. Parents and teachers sat down together to review each pupil’s work, look at their progress and agree how to support them at home and at school.

Meetings like this are part of what makes the schools work. Families in rural communities choose to send their children, girls and boys alike, to school, and the school keeps them closely involved in their children’s learning.
Days marked in June
During the month, pupils and trainee teachers also marked:
- World Environment Day;
- the International Day against Child Labour;
- Father’s Day; and
- Mother’s Day.
The International Day against Child Labour is a reminder of why school places that do not depend on a family’s ability to pay matter so much: a child in school is a child with choices ahead of them.
